Chhatrapati Dutta |
|
Chhatrapati Dutta’s (b 1964, in Kolkata) pieces are characterized by an eclectic handling of media. His works are imbued with a pluralism of ideas rendered in a gyrating mass of collage. Embedded in history, a human mind cannot possibly thought in a pure single strand of thought. There are countless factors, events, happenings that keep adding to his memory as he moves forth. A major part of what constitutes man is fed to him through an arsenal of the print culture, the media, the visual. Archival prints, woodcuts, graphic novels are extremely enticing to the artist, thus. Dutta negotiates the personal experience/interaction with the world of print culture with his idea and concern over the global. Re-evaluation of the self against the long chain of history is perhaps a habit inherent in mankind. The artist reassesses the position the personal/self as set against the macrocosm of culture.
