Nilanjan Banerjee
Nilanjan Banerjee-Monart Gallerie - Indian Artists Gallery Strange colours play in the depths of my being all day long. With the deepening of dusk, they take wing as butterflies. They call out, “Afloat on our wings, you will never trace her.” The unruly rain cannot wash out these strange colours.

My paintings, like my life, are neither pre-planned nor organized. Therefore it is a matter of great joy to me. My paintings are spontaneous expressions of my thoughts which are often shadowed by the sense of a frightening absence of continuity in life around me and my relationships.

So many colours converge on a canvas. Each colour gives up its natural inclination. So many colours wander, float and mingle; they break open my armour of vanity. So many colours become a butterfly. In many hues they drift the carelessness of my past.

Nilanjan Banerjee was born on 21 September, 1974. He was educated (English literature and Japanese) in Santiniketan and Japan. A poet and a painter, Nilanjan divides his time between Santiniketan and Kolkata. Nilanjan had his first solo exhibition of art works at the Kasumi Tsukuba Centre, Japan in 2002. His important publications include two books of poems with drawings by Jogen Chowdhury. He has taken part in several group shows in India. At present he is the Special Officer of Rabindra-Bhavana, Visva-Bharati.
