Surekha was born in Bangalore and has studied at Ken School of Arts, Bangalore and at Kalabhavan, Santiniketan. Her work revolves around issues of concern to women and connected with identinity, questions the established notion of gender politics. Her works have been shown extensively in galleries and museums in India and abroad. Her selected recent shows includes "Crossing Generations: Diverge", 40 years of gallery Chemould, "ghosts in the machine and other fables" at Apeejay Media Center , New Delhi , Indian summer at Ecole de beaux arts, Paris, Rights/writes/rewrites ,Masson grove gallery, New York , Diva -2005/2006 Paris/New york. Her participation in 2007 includes Communing with urban heroines, a photo and video installation, Maxmueller Bhavan, Bangalore, photo and media art from India; a journey , Fluss-Austria, HORN PLEASE; Narratives in Contemporary Indian Art", Kunst Museum, Bern, Switzerland, Public places, private spaces; Newark Museum, USA, Grid, Bodhi art gallery, installations , Chemould art gallery.
Surekha lives and works in Bangalore.
